Raushan Bakhytovna Aitieva

Aitieva Raushan Bakhytovna (1936-2021) worked at the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University Library for 49 years, holding the position of Head of the Library from 1967 to 2013.

Her work was marked by awards from the Ministry of Education of the Kazakh SSR, the Presidium of the Kazakh Republican Committee of Trade Unions, etc. R.B. Aitieva was awarded the honorary badge “Excellent Worker of Public Education of the Kazakh SSR”, the medal named after A. Baitursynov, and in 2012, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, she was awarded the high state title “Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

If at the beginning of Aitieva’s work at the Library in 1964 the library collection consisted of 60,000 items, including journals and teaching aids, and was located in two classrooms on the second floor of the main building, then by the time she completed her work at the Library it had grown to 1.5 million items.

R.B. Aitieva’s second very important professional achievement was her contribution to the construction and commissioning of the new library building at the intersection of Aiteke bi and Masanchi streets in 1984. She personally brought the design documentation for the library building from Moscow, and the Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Kazakh SSR Mukhamed-Rakhimov personally supervised the construction of the Library.

Raushan Bakhytovna also taught at the library faculty of the Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical Institute for more than 22 years.

Aitieva actively introduced computer technologies into library practice and, in order to meet the requirements of her time, completed computer courses.

She was a member of the research group at the State Public Library of the Kazakh SSR named after A.S. Pushkin (currently the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan), a member of the Republican Library and Information Commission under the Ministry of Education of the Kazakh SSR, chairman of the section of ideological, educational and mass work of university libraries in the city of Alma-Ata, a member of the city society of book lovers.

She completed advanced training courses for directors of university libraries at Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Culture and Leningrad Institute of Culture (Russian Federation), Tartu University (Estonia), and visited Tashkent University (Uzbekistan) and Women’s Pedagogical Institute (Kyrgyzstan) as part of an professional experience exchange program.

R.B. Aitieva is the author of a number of publications on librarianship, as well as works that revealed the historical truth about the life and struggle of the prominent statesman Abdrakhman Aitiev.

The life of Raushan Bakhytovna Aitieva and her professional activities are a bright kaleidoscope of events, permeated with love for family and respect for people.
