The Center for Academic Writing is a university institution that helps students and teachers develop the skills of writing scientific texts in English, Kazakh and Russian. Such centers teach scientific style, text structuring, and link design to make scientific papers understandable, compelling, and ready for publication.
Objectives and functions of the Academic Writing Center:
Educational activities
Conducting courses and master classes in academic writing for students, postgraduates and teachers.
Methodical support
Teaching the rules of scientific style, including formality, precision of wording, logical structure of the text (introduction, main part, conclusion) and the use of high-quality sources of information.
Preparing for publication
Assistance in the preparation and design of scientific articles, dissertations, monographs and other scientific papers for publication in leading journals.
Competence development
Improving the quality of scientific work, argumentation skills, and presentation of research results in accordance with international standards.
Creating a community
Bringing together teachers and students interested in developing the theory and practice of academic writing, as well as establishing partnerships with other centers to share experiences.
Guided by the requests of the University’s educational and scientific departments, the Library plans and coordinates the work of experts at the Center for Academic Writing, as well as implements the following activities:
· conducts seminars/trainings/master classes on choosing the best publishing strategies of authors, issues of copyright, plagiarism, open access and open science;
· participates in scientific projects funded by international and national organizations;
· helps to increase the publication activity of university staff and the quality of their scientific publications;
· conducts seminars and consultations on the identification and profiles of authors in digital communities (ORCID, ResearcherID, AuthorID);
· holds an “Open Access Week” at the university in order to promote open science, etc.
